This article is aim to help you figure out a really common problem, but someone may not have a way to resolve it.
When you are trying to delete files or folders in your File Explorer, sometimes you may get a prompt that says, ā€œA process is using the file or folder that prevents deleting itā€.

Solution

You can use theĀ Resource MonitorĀ for this, which comesĀ built-inĀ with Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11.
  1. OpenĀ Resource Monitor, which can be found
      • By searching forĀ Resource MonitorĀ orĀ resmon.exeĀ in the start menu, or
      • As a button on theĀ PerformanceĀ tab in yourĀ Task Manager
  1. Go to theĀ CPUĀ tab
  1. In theĀ ProcessesĀ section, select all processes by clicking the checkbox next to "Image" in the headers.
  1. Use theĀ search fieldĀ in theĀ Associated HandlesĀ section, right-click the process stop it.
